Rabbit Hole to Nowhere
Serena
Summary: Google may not be the best place to explore your lineage. Even when you're given a map straight to it!

There were still a number of books left behind despite the several she had brought back with her from Italy. Only one of the ones she had was in a language she didn't understand. The drawings inside of it were incredibly interesting. "Is there any end to the learning?" Now she had to learn magic while learning her lineage, while learning an entirely new language? Of course she could hire a translator, but what if there was sensitive information in the book? "You've been locked away for who knows how many years holding your secrets. Who am I to share them with others?"

Who knows, maybe there actually were secrets in the book.

On the other hand, it could just be idle drawings and markings of a child.

Setting her small recorder to voice activate, she records her thoughts as she goes. Taking the book from her love seat to her work station at the computer. Checking the GIS monitor, she types in a few commands and it minimizes. After a moment, she pulls up Chrome. Google prompts her to type in a command. Now time to take a guess at the language.

Something ancient. Egyptian? Greek? Well, that's a great place to start. List ancient languages.

Huh..

"Latin. Korean? No, mark that one out. Hebrew. Greek. Aramic? That one looks likely.. I honestly don't think it's Chinese. Sanskrit? Tamil, Egyptian. Ohh, Oldest languages in the world. Whoa, whoa. Oracle Bone Script? Bronze Age China. Yeah, no. Luwian Hieroglyphs? They don't compare. Linear B used by Mycenaean Greeks. Possible but not probable."

"Hittite Cuneiform. Not likely either. Nor is Linear A, used by Minoans, people of Crete, Huh. Which leads to Cretan Hieroglyphs. These are all lost languages, things I've never even heard of! Elamite Cuneiform, Elamites. Akkadian Cuneiform? Again, it looks nothing like the text in the tome. Ah, more familiar territory. Egyptian Hieroglyphs used by Ancient Egyptians." There's a long silence as she spirals into a long exploration out of interest, not necessity. Finally, she wades her way back out. "Okay, that was interesting and fun. Nothing to do with the tomes, I'm pretty sure."

Leaning back in her chair, she crosses her legs and places the book across it, slowly turning the pages. "Why is this little writing guy always making an appearance? There's absolutely nothing to go off of to find out."

Frustrated, she closes the book and places it aside. Maybe the Scions at Book Tower could point her in the right direction. At least it would be a safe place to store the books and tomes when she wasn't using them for research.
